If you have been here know that Hilton Head Island, South Carolina is an amazing and beautiful place. If you are coming down for the first time you are in for a treat! With twelve miles of pristine white sand beaches, a stunning natural setting and more to do and see than you can imagine it is a unique destination for many sun seeking vacationers. There are also about 30,000 folks that are lucky enough to live here.
A few of the main attractions of this barrier island are the unspoiled beaches, the many world class golf courses, fine dining, the relaxed and peaceful atmosphere, a multitude of walking and biking tails, and above all the beautiful natural feel of the community as a whole. On top of the natural beauty is the long and storied history of this little place.
The beginnings of development of this picturesque area started with the Sea Pines Plantation on the South end of the island. Sea Pines is widely regarded as one of the first “planned communities” built around the natural environment, not over it. Charles Fraser, the developer of Sea Pines Plantation, insisted that the natural setting be preserved above all else. It is to him, and those that followed his vision, that current residents and vacationers owe their gratitude for the Island we enjoy today! We have no neon signs here, no gaudy tourist traps, and no street vendors selling trinkets. We have an island on the sea for all to enjoy – a slice of paradise!
